Hello and welcome to the website for the Sherburne-Earlville High  School. My name is Rick Thormahlen, and I will serve as the interim High School Principal until a new principal is appointed. Early in my educational career I taught English, Speech,Theatre, and ran the TAG program at S-E. I left the district in 1989 to pursue administrative opportunities and, after retiring in 2002, I have held interim positions in several districts in Central
New York. Now, I am excited to return to the place where it all began and to be able to give back to the district.
What have I learned in almost 40 years of workingin education?
1)Â Students need to feel safe coming to school.
2) Students and teachers need to be challenged with rigorous material.
3) Students and teachers need quality facilities and materials in order to succeed.
4) Everyone needs to be held accountable.

Sherburne-Earlville prides itself in meeting these attributes. Students are being prepared to eventually enter a workplace that will require them to communicate,to problem solve, and to possess the necessary skills to accomplish assigned tasks. With 44 states adopting the Common Core standards, students will be expected to delve deeper into materials and to master the skills required to succeed at the next level of the subject area.

Students will be expected to demonstrate good judgment and a respectful attitude when dealing with adults and peers. The counseling center and the administration are always ready to assist any student in need.

After living in this district for almost 40 years, I still believe that this is one of the best places to raise a family. The community supports top-notch educational programs and facilities. I am proud to be a member of this team, and I look forward to meeting many of you in the near future. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at the High School.
